A farm in the North, far from Southern standards
In France, most spirulina producers set up in the South, where the warmth allows for outdoor ponds all year round. Akal made a different choice: a farm located near the sea, where spirulina grows under glass – because north and south, organic farming methods are not the same. This cooler climate slows its growth, but preserves its richness in phycocyanin and proteins. Here, a small team of farmers carefully tends to each organic spirulina pond with skill and expertise – knowledge passed down from harvest to harvest, far removed from industrial organic production.
A seasonal harvest, at the pace of spirulina
Spirulina is harvested seasonally, from spring to autumn, when light favours its photosynthesis. Each spirulina harvest is unique: colour, texture, and phycocyanin content vary depending on the prevailing weather. It is this rhythm, rather than continuous production, that distinguishes artisanal organic spirulina from standardised production – a deliberate choice, even if it affects the cost.
Our organic spirulina formats: powder, tablets, flakes and twigs
Akal spirulina comes in several forms, depending on your preferences:
- Spirulina powder Easy to integrate into a recipe or smoothie, this fine version is suitable for everyday use.
- Spirulina tablets This practical, portable format is easy to use daily, with no strong taste.
- Spirulina flakes and sprigs Spirulina in its closest to raw form, dried below 42°C to preserve its nutritional qualities. Our Fleur de Spiru flakes, developed using biodynamic methods, are a finer variation of this same spirulina.
- Spirulina for animals A version developed for a cat's coat and vitality, with the same organic standards as our spirulina for humans.
Each reference maintains the same requirement: organic and traceable spirulina, from harvest to your order.
The benefits of organic spirulina on a daily basis
The benefits of spirulina have been known for a long time: this organic food is naturally rich in proteins, iron and B vitamins, with phycocyanin as an additional asset, this blue antioxidant pigment which is also found in our Or Bleu range. Added to a recipe or taken in tablets, it accompanies both temporary fatigue, sporting effort or the increased needs of certain periods of life.
