How to integrate spirulina into daily life?
How to integrate spirulina into daily life? Where to find spirulina? How to store it? How to cook it? I'm taking you with me to get plenty of advice and tips!
Où trouver de la spiruline ?
Already, it all starts with a supply. I don't have a pond or greenhouse yet, so I'll get my spirulina from a... Specialist shop (biology, pharmacy…). Do you live in the countryside? Don't worry, you should be able to find some on Internet Or even better: direct from the producer!
You're there? Great! So now How to take spirulina Which texture Which will you choose?
- of the spirulina in twigs For extra crunch in your recipes?
- of the powder for flavouring your drinks?
- suck tablets to swallow ?
The spirulina is a living food, vibrant, healthy, and like any food, it deserves to be enjoyed with pleasure. All the more so because it does your body good! So choose the method that will give you a boost to start. And then, you can always vary the formats afterwards!
Product selection can be made very easily:
- The provenance This is very important for taste and nutritional richness (more sweetness thanks to the sun in warm climates). Local produce should be valued if you want to support your “almost neighbours” and prioritise short supply chains for the planet.
- The labels or mentions (organic, ecological Ecocert…) which are indicators of quality, even though there is a wide disparity, especially between artisanal and industrial spirulina.
- The choice of’a craft culture notably the drying method if it's dehydrated spirulina. Check that it's “gentle” or “low temperature” drying, ideally below 42°C. Otherwise, it could be spray-dried spirulina (the industrial method using high pressure and heat), which has therefore lost some of its nutrients in the process.
As for the quantity, for my part, I've organised a meeting with my brain and my inner feelings, and after reflection, the decision is unanimous. I'm going for a 3-month course, the time to create a routine that I could follow automatically almost without thinking until the end of the year. 300g at a rate of one teaspoon per day is good to start… and continue with full momentum, perhaps even increasing the quantities!

How to store spirulina?
Back home? Good, then make your way to your oil and vinegar cupboard… Spirulina prefers small, dark corners, not too hot or too cold, and rather dry.. Here it's perfect! Most importantly, don't forget to properly Reseal the bag or the box after use, so it doesn't oxidise. Properly stored dehydrated spirulina can last for at least 1.5 years.
Ah, you want to take your dried spirulina for the day? No worries, take it, check that the packaging is properly closed, and don't forget to give some to your colleagues/friends to try!
Oh, I see you've succumbed to some Fresh spirulina Lucky you, you're in for a treat! So, let's go fridge, or in the freezer if you wish to keep it longer (I await your invitation!)
Of course, we all have our own perfect little moment. Mine is every day at the 10am break! Do you have any tips to share? Please, go ahead! Some people may not yet have their own Spirulina ritual, ..., that might interest them!

Spirulina can be consumed at any time of day depending on your activities. The morning is quite favoured, since spirulina's nutritional intake will thus provide what is needed to sustain you throughout the day. If you experience difficulty sleeping, do not take it in the evening, unless you have an evening planned 😉 The most important thing is that it should be a moment of pleasure, a break in your day to recharge, to refocus on yourself, your consciousness and your body.
The A meal is a favourable moment with your spirulina intake. Especially if you like it in recipes! You can also divide the daily dose to take it with each meal.
In both cases, I advise you to take your spirulina. 20 to 30 minutes before eating :
- You are looking to enjoy the’Iron content of spirulina (see the top 3 tips for optimal assimilation below).
- You're embarking on a slimming diet (spirulina has an appetite-suppressant effect).

Ah Are you sporty?! It's brilliant to take care of yourself like that!
I deduce that you have spirulina in your sports bag. You have the choice to take it either:
- Before your workout (or competition) to boost your mineral and protein levels before the exertion that will cause you to lose them.
- After sports training, to participate in the recovery of iron losses, proteins and other nutritional elements.
- The two, if you feel the need. On a sports day, you can take 2 to 3 spoons of spirulina.
What sport is that? Yoga? Me too, maybe we'll see each other at a future class!
Whatever your spirulina moment, I'm sharing my little tasting ritual to rebalance your energy before enjoying your spirulina
- Settle yourself comfortably, with your feet resting on the floor and close your eyes.
- Take a deep breath and exhale through your nose. Then a second one.
- Enjoy your spirulina, focus on its taste, on all that it brings you.
- Breathe again, focus on how you feel.
How to cook spirulina?
Spirulina is a flavour enhancer, which means it will enhance the flavour of every ingredient you pair it with. How exactly do you consume it?
Team Fresh spirulina ? Well, toast it, quite simply. Or make it into a sauce or a side dish for your meals. You can, just like us, whip up a spirulina hummus or tartare.
Team twigs/petals/glitter The crispy aspect should be highlighted, don't you think? At breakfast, in your cereal or yoghurt. At lunch, in sprig on your pasta, rice, or salad dishes with some organic spirulina in flakes. As an aperitif, to add to your toast. At dinner, to decorate your soup, your vegetables, or your dessert with a pretty emerald green note.
Team powder I note that you like to see life through rose-tinted spectacles! That's good! Spirulina powder can be mixed into yogurt, fruit compote, mashed vegetables, sauce, or a dessert cream (which won't be cooked afterwards). The powder works well in smoothies, pure juices, or non-alcoholic cocktails.

How to properly dilute spirulina powder?
There is a very simple way for the powder dissolves evenly in its own juice. 10 seconds sharp! Do you have your glass?

Once your spirulina recipe is ready, you have 24 hours to consume it. After this period, the spirulina can begin to oxidise (due to light, heat or humidity), in which case it turns blue.
Although rich in iron, protein, vitamins, minerals, branched-chain amino acids, etc., spirulina can be included in a balanced diet.
Top 3 tips for optimal assimilation of all spirulina's properties
Special food source of benefits = gentle cooking
The Spirulina should not be cooked. Remember, spirulina should not be exposed to excessively high temperatures (>42°C) or it will lose some of its nutritional benefits. So, forget the blender, microwave, oven… and add the spirulina as a topping at the very end of your recipe!
2. Perfect Match: Vitamin C
The significant amount of iron in spirulina is bioavailable. Your body, which will no doubt be delighted in advance, will still appreciate a little boost to help it absorb it. The Vitamin C found in fruits, pure juices, vegetables, and aromatic herbs will do the trick. Combine the two to optimise absorption!
3. Spirulina versus tea/coffee
If Vitamin C is spirulina's best friend for facilitating iron absorption, tea and coffee have the opposite effect. Ideally, Separate spirulina intake by at least 2 hours of your tea/coffee (before and after).
Bonus: Spirulina is a lovely gift
Giving spirulina to your loved ones is even better than giving soap or perfume. The gesture signifies that you genuinely care about the recipient's health, and not just their hygiene. 😜
-> 4 good reasons to give spirulina as a gift:
- Introduce a superfood qui peut être facilement intégré à de nombreuses recettes
While the word spirulina is starting to make its way in France, you'll find that many people don't know what it is (no, it's not a seaweed!) and even fewer know what it's used for. This is an opportunity for you to introduce something you love and believe in.
- Original gift that suits everyone
Yes indeed! Men, women, children, seniors, mothers-in-law, colleagues, athletes, yoga instructors, chefs, nurses… whether they are 10, 20, 30, 40 or older! Even for those recovering from illness!
- Lovely surprise that works for a special occasion or an ordinary day
Do you just want to please someone? Very generous of you, in any case, it works. Including for a birthday, leaving do, Mother's/Father's Day, wedding, housewarming, golden anniversary, inauguration, exhibition opening… PS: it also works to say sorry. 😉
- No duplicates = happy receiver!
No one else would have thought of such a gift, let alone one so brilliant, and the recipient will be less embarrassed than if they received a duplicate or just a card!
- A gift with meaning
Every spoonful of Akal spirulina is:
- Doing good for everyone's body and mind
- Participating in the promotion of artisanal, quality superfoods with vibratory energy.
- To support a French company in its development
- Encouraging a network of ecological (Ecocert) spirulina growers
- Support research and innovation for seasonal products (fresh spirulina).
- Distribution of a percentage of our solidarity sales to the association Spir'Sol, which fights against child malnutrition
