Organic spirulina twigs: sun-dried below 42°C, fair trade Burkina Faso.

A spirulina that nourishes twice — and has a satisfying crunch

These twigs are the result of a fair trade partnership with artisan farms in Burkina Faso — Akal partners since 2008.

They carry out two simultaneous missions. To produce high-quality artisanal spirulina for our clients. And to donate part of their production to the most vulnerable local populations – children suffering from malnutrition, pregnant women, and vulnerable individuals. The WHO acknowledges that in cases of severe malnutrition, spirulina is one of the few foods capable of rapidly providing the proteins, iron, and vitamins necessary for recovery. These farms make this a daily reality.

And a client put it better than we could: «I don't see a difference in taste with French spirulina.»

This is the result of a shared specification – artisanal drying below 42°C, no additives, no pesticides, pure twigs, regular laboratory checks on each batch. Same requirement, different continent, same conclusion on your plate.

What they do — and what they don't do

What they are doing

To provide all the nutrients of artisanal spirulina in a sprinkleable, no-preparation format

– Support energy, immunity, recovery and beauty with regular treatment

– Contribute directly to a solidarity scheme that feeds children in Burkina Faso

What they don't do

– Dissolves easily in liquids — for smoothies and juices, Solidaire Powder is better suited

– Act within a few days — a 3 to 4 week course is necessary for lasting effects

– To substitute for medical follow-up in the case of a diagnosed deficiency

Grown under the African sun — dried below 42°C

Burkina Faso benefits from exceptional natural sunshine for spirulina – a freshwater algae that thrives in heat and light.
Our partner farms harness this unique climatic advantage whilst meticulously controlling the drying temperature: never exceeding 42°C, for 7 to 8 hours.

Beyond this threshold, phycocyanin begins to degrade, living enzymes lose their activity, certain B vitamins deteriorate, and proteins generate the sulfurous compounds responsible for the strong odour of industrial spirulina.

Slow-dried under the African sun at temperatures below 42°C, Brindilles Solidaires retain their phycocyanin content at over 20%, their mild umami flavour—free from bitterness or unpleasant odours—and their surprisingly appealing, slightly crunchy texture, as well as all their live nutrients.

The 5 benefits — and for whom

Energy and combating underlying fatigue

Bioavailable iron – without the absorption inhibitors found in grains and pulses – supports red blood cell formation and helps reduce chronic fatigue. Sprinkled on a lemony salad, the sprigs naturally combine iron and vitamin C. «Very effective on iron» — client Akal.

Ideal profile: people prone to chronic fatigue, women during their periods, people recovering from illness, vegetarians and vegans lacking sources of bioavailable iron.

2. Deeper enhanced immunity

Phycocyanin and beta-carotene — 15 times more concentrated than in carrots — support the body's natural defences. A 3 to 4 week course before autumn helps the body get through winter with greater resilience. For daily use, they maintain defences all year round.

Ideal profile: people often weakened during seasonal changes, families with young children, individuals recovering after an illness.

3. Complete plant-based protein for athletes and vegetarians

With 60–70g of complete plant-based protein — containing all the essential amino acids — these sticks support muscle recovery after exercise, boost endurance and help meet protein requirements for those following a meat-free diet. Three times more protein than beef, with no saturated fat. «Excellent and invigorating» — client Akal.

Ideal profile: Vegetarians and vegans, athletes in training or recovery, people wishing to reduce their animal protein intake without deficiency.

4. Beauty — complexion, hair, and nail radiance

Zinc, B vitamins and antioxidant active ingredients support keratin synthesis and skin health. With a regular course of 4 to 6 weeks, our clients report visible effects on hair strength, nail solidity and skin radiance.

Ideal profile: People with dull complexions or weakened hair, post-pregnancy profiles, individuals whose skin reflects a nutritional imbalance.

5. Detox and cellular protection

Chlorophyll aids in the natural purification of blood. SOD — Superoxide Dismutase — protects cells from premature ageing and oxidative stress. Particularly relevant in spring, in combination with DETOX Potion or Lacto-fermented Birch Sap.

Ideal profile: Individuals exposed to pollution or tobacco, profiles seeking natural baseline detoxification support, individuals undergoing dietary transitions.

How to consume Solidary Twigs?

Sprinkle the daily dose directly onto your dishes when serving – salads, cereals, yoghurts, toast, hot meals.
The slightly crispy texture and mild umami taste integrate naturally with any meal, without altering the flavour profile.

Start with one teaspoon per day the first week, then gradually increase.

The golden rule: never heat above 40°C. If you are adding them to a hot dish, wait for the temperature to cool down before sprinkling. To be avoided at the same time: tea, coffee, and dairy products, which inhibit iron absorption.

The secret to maximum assimilation:

Pair the twigs with a source of vitamin C – a lemony salad, kiwi, orange juice, or TONIC Potion, which has acerola naturally rich in vitamin C.

Everyday uses

Zesty green salad — the great classic, synergy of iron + natural vitamin C

Plain yogurt + honey — irresistible crunchy texture, subtle umami taste

Cereal or morning granola — sprinkled directly into the bowl Avocado toast + sprouts + sea salt flakes

Scrambled eggs or omelette - added at the end of cooking, off the heat

Rice, pasta, quinoa, lentils — sprinkled when serving

Lukewarm soup - added to the bowl once below 40°C

Treatment protocol — what happens week by week

Week 1

One teaspoon a day on salad, in cereal, on yoghurt. The body discovers spirulina. Most people don't yet notice a marked effect. That's normal – the process is getting underway.

Weeks 2 and 3

The dose increases to 1 to 2 teaspoons depending on the objective. Background fatigue begins to ease. Athletes notice a slightly improved recovery between sessions.

Week 4

The effects on energy levels have taken hold. For those completing a full and regular course, the first effects on skin tone and hair become noticeable. Immunity has gradually strengthened throughout the duration.

A month of treatment is the minimum to anchor the effects in depth.

What is the difference between Solidarity Twigs and the Normandy Spirulina Twig Flower?

No difference in quality – a difference in origin and commitment. Fleur de Spiru comes exclusively from the Akal farm in Bouquetot, cultivated using biodynamic and sensitive permaculture. Les Brindilles Solidaires come from partner farms in Burkina Faso, through fair trade, with a direct solidarity dimension. The same drying process below 42°C, the same mild umami taste, the same crunchy texture. The price is slightly more accessible, and each purchase contributes to the fight against childhood malnutrition.

Why do African twigs taste the same as Normandy spirulina?

Because the taste of spirulina depends above all on the drying process – not the terroir. Dried below 42°C, spirulina retains its intact proteins and avoids the formation of sulphur compounds responsible for the strong smell. This is true in Bouquetot, it's true in Burkina Faso. The proof: «I don't see a difference in taste with French spirulina.»

Is the 1kg really better value than the 100g?

Yes — €12.18 per 100g for the 1kg pack, compared to €18.36 per 100g here, a saving of 34%.
At 3g/day, 1kg lasts for almost 10 months – without running out of stock, without rationing consumption.
And free delivery is included right from the start. The 100g is the trial size. The 1kg is for those who have already decided.

Can we give these twigs to the children?

Yes, from 3 years old, in small doses — a pinch on meals or in cereal. The crunchy texture and mild umami taste are generally well-received. Adjust the dose gradually according to age and weight. Jean-Charles P.'s record is direct proof of this — his wife and daughters also consume it.

Is spirulina from Burkina Faso controlled?

Yes — partner farms are selected and audited according to the Akal specifications, with regular laboratory checks on each batch. The same quality requirement as the entire range, regardless of geographical origin.

How to store twigs?

Store in the dark and away from moisture, in a tightly sealed box or sachet. Do not store near a heat source. Consume preferably within 12 months of opening.
