Organic French spirulina in sprigs: addictive taste, crunchy texture, grown in Normandy
What is the Spiru Twig Flower - and why is it the most authentic product in the range?
This is Akal's original product. The one Sat Pavan started producing in Normandy in 2010, after tasting fresh spirulina for the first time in 2007 and deciding that this algae deserved to be cultivated with consciousness, love and respect.
For 17 years, he hasn't changed.
La Fleur de Spiru is the only spirulina in the range cultivated directly on the Akal farm — on the eco-estate of Bouquetot, in Pays d’Auge, Normandy.
What makes it incomparable is the combination of the following two specific features:
Drying at below 42°C for 6 to 7 hours. At temperatures above 100°C — the standard industrial process — spirulina produces sulphur compounds. This is what creates the strong smell and unpleasant taste that put people off. At temperatures below 42°C, the proteins do not denature, the phycocyanin remains intact at over 20%, and the enzymes remain active. The result: a mild, appetising taste, a slightly crunchy texture, and a light, pleasant sea-like aroma. A spirulina you actually want to eat — not swallow whilst holding your nose.
Permaculture, sensitive agriculture, and biodynamics. The ponds are installed in direct contact with the earth, in an argillaceous-siliceous complex that recreates the natural environment of African lakes where wild spirulina thrives. The water is energised according to biodynamic principles. Harvests follow the biodynamic calendar. Sat Pavan, a yoga practitioner for 25 years, broadcasts mantras and sacred songs during harvests – convinced that the intention put into the cultivation is transmitted to the spirulina. And you absorb it.
This is not a marketing argument. It's the philosophy that has guided every harvest since 2010, and which produced the first organic-certified spirulina in France.
What she does — and what she doesn't do
What she's doing
To bring together all the nutrients of live spirulina in a format that can be sprinkled without preparation
– Support energy, immunity, recovery and beauty with regular treatment
– To integrate naturally into daily meals, on any solid dish
What she doesn't do
– Easily disperses in liquids — for drinks and smoothies, Spirulina Flower Powder is best suited
– Act within a few days — a 3 to 4 week course is necessary for lasting effects
– To substitute for medical follow-up in the case of a diagnosed deficiency
The 4 benefits — and for whom
Energy and combating underlying fatigue
The iron in spirulina, which is particularly well absorbed by the body, supports the formation of red blood cells and helps alleviate chronic fatigue. Sprinkled on a lemony salad at lunchtime, the strands naturally combine iron and vitamin C – the combination that maximises assimilation. Or add them to your morning cereal with freshly squeezed orange juice.
Ideal profile: People prone to chronic fatigue, women during their periods, convalescents, vegetarians and vegans who are low in iron.
2. Strengthened immunity before winter
Phycocyanin and beta-carotene — 15 times more concentrated than in carrots — support the body's natural defences. A 3 to 4-week course in September-October, at one teaspoon per day with meals, helps the body face winter with greater resilience. For daily maintenance, they support defences all year round.
Ideal profile: People often weakened in autumn, families with young children, people seeking immune support that integrates effortlessly into meals.
3. Complete plant-based proteins for vegetarians and athletes
With 60–70% complete plant-based protein, spirulina provides all the essential amino acids. At 1 to 2 tablespoons per meal (5 to 10g), spirulina supports muscle recovery after exercise, endurance during training, and meets protein requirements for those who do not eat meat. Sat Pavan himself stopped eating meat 25 years ago — and has been consuming 2 to 3 tablespoons of spirulina a day ever since.
Ideal profile: Vegetarians and vegans looking for complete proteins, athletes in training or recovery, people wishing to reduce their animal protein intake.
4. Radiance of skin, hair and nails
Zinc, B vitamins, and the antioxidant compounds in spirulina support keratin synthesis and skin health. With a regular 4 to 6-week course, our customers report visible effects on hair strength, nail solidity, and skin radiance. The crunchy texture of the twigs naturally finds its way into everyday dishes – without even a second thought.
Ideal profile: People with dull complexions or weakened hair, post-pregnancy profiles, individuals whose skin reflects a nutritional imbalance.
How to consume Fleur de Spiru Twigs?
The great strength of sprigs: they are sprinkled directly onto any solid dish, without preparation, without complex measuring. A teaspoon on your lunchtime salad – done, and eaten.
Start with one teaspoon a day for the first week to get your body used to it, then gradually increase to your target dose.
The golden rule: never heat above 40°C. If adding to a hot soup or dish, wait for the temperature to drop before sprinkling.
Avoid tea and coffee simultaneously, as they inhibit iron absorption.

Everyday uses
Green lemony salad — the absolute reference, crisp texture, synergy of iron + vitamin C
Morning cereal or granola - sprinkled straight into the bowl Plain yogurt + honey + twigs - addictive texture, worth a try
Avocado toast + cress + sea salt. Scrambled eggs or omelette – added at the end of cooking, off the heat.
Rice, pasta, quinoa — sprinkled on at serving time. Warm soup — added to the bowl once the temperature has dropped below 40°C.
Treatment protocol — what happens week by week
Week 1
A teaspoon a day – on salad, in cereal, on yoghurt. The body is discovering spirulina. Most people aren't noticing significant effects yet. That's normal – the process is getting underway.
Weeks 2 and 3
The dose increases to 1 to 2 teaspoons depending on the objective. Underlying fatigue begins to lessen for the affected individuals. Athletes notice slightly improved recovery between sessions.
Week 4
The effects on energy levels have taken hold. For those completing a full and regular course, the first effects on skin tone and hair become noticeable. Immunity has gradually strengthened throughout the duration.
One month of treatment is the minimum for deep-seated effects. The 100g box at 3g/day covers exactly this cycle. The 200g avoids having to ration.
Precautions for use
– Contraindicated in case of haemochromatosis
– Ongoing medical treatment: ask your doctor for advice before starting
– Never heat above 40°C
– Avoid consuming at the same time as tea or coffee
– Store away from light and moisture, in a box or bag tightly closed
Which format should I choose?
100g — €22.50 — 1 month's supply at 3g/day
The discovery format. Enough for a first complete course and to feel how the sprigs integrate into your daily life. The 100g box is also the ideal format to slip into a bag or place on the table — visible, accessible, used.

The format for those who have discovered it and want to consume without rationing — without telling themselves «I must preserve it» at every pinch. Two months of continuous treatment, without running out at the wrong moment. Best value for money for regular daily use.
1kg — €185.00 — 10-month course
The format for the convinced. Those who can't do without it anymore and want to stop reordering every two months. The best value for money in the range per gram — and free delivery included from the outset, well above €85.
The recommended synergies
🌿 Fleur de Spiru Twigs + TONIC Potion — the synergy of energy and assimilation
Sprinkle the twigs on your lunchtime salad while you prepare your TONIC Potion in a morning juice. The naturally vitamin C-rich acerola in TONIC Potion boosts iron absorption from twigs – the most effective anti-fatigue combination in the range, across two moments of the day.
💙 Spiru Twigs Flower + Organic Phycocyanin - Green gold meets blue gold
Sprinkle the twigs on your meal, 10ml of Phycocyanin in your juice in the morning. The two active ingredients reinforce each other on the antioxidant and immune fronts — the combination our most regular customers swear by.
🛡 Spiru Twigs Flower + IMMUNITY Potion — the complete natural defences synergy
Twigs at mealtimes for foundational nutritional intake, IMMUNITY Potion in the morning for active immune support. A consistent 4-week protocol as autumn approaches.
🌱 Spiru Twigs Flower + Spiru Powder Flower — the duo of complementary formats
Twigs to sprinkle on all solid dishes. Powder for drinks and smoothies. The same Norman spirulina, in two forms, for a presence at all times of the day.

Why do Akal twigs not have a strong smell?
Because they are dried below 42°C. Above 100°C — the standard industrial process — spirulina generates sulphur compounds responsible for the strong smell and unpleasant taste.
During atomisation, the spirulina cells are broken to be transformed into liquid before passing through the hot air. This rupture of the cell membrane causes a rapid oxidation from spirulina in addition to thermal degradation.
Below 42°C, these compounds do not form. Result: a light marine smell, a mild taste, a slightly crunchy texture. This is the difference between live spirulina and oxidised spirulina.
What is the difference between twigs and Akal powder?
The raw material is identical — same Norman spirulina, same drying process. The twigs are the purest and closest form to raw spirulina, ideal for sprinkling on solid dishes. The powder is stone-ground to disperse instantly in liquids. It's all about usage: twigs for plates, powder for glasses.
From when do we feel the effects?
The first signs generally appear towards the end of the first week – an increase in energy, a slight improvement in digestion for some individuals. For lasting effects on immunity, recovery and skin tone, a course of at least 4 weeks is necessary.
Is La Fleur de Spiru Twigs suitable for pregnant women?
Spirulina is naturally rich in iron, folic acid, and essential fatty acids – nutrients that are beneficial during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor for a dosage suited to your individual situation before starting.
Can we give this to children?
Yes, in small doses – a pinch on meals. The crunchy texture and mild flavour generally go well in cereal or on yogurt. Gradually adapt the dose according to age and weight.
Why the 1kg format and for whom?
The 1kg pack is for customers who have integrated spirulina into their daily lives for a long time and no longer want to deal with stock breakages. At 3g/day, it lasts almost a year. At 5g/day, 7 months. It is also the most economical per gram – and free delivery is included from the outset.
How to store twigs?
Store in a cool, dry place, in a tightly sealed box or sachet. Do not store near a heat or moisture source (above the cooker, in the bathroom). Best consumed within 12 months of opening.
